Borthwick is an independent intelligence service based in Brussels. We track the EU’s foreign, security and economic policies, explaining how they impact UK firms and investors.
The EU writes many rules that impact the UK. Be it whether UK companies can sell defence equipment to European primes, route payments through Central Asia, list of European indices or invest in Chinese-linked supply chains. Most of these rule are made by committees, expert groups and trilogues that the UK no longer takes part in. Borthwick reports from where the policies are being made.
Borthwick is run by its founder, Thomas Hollands, an MA in Diplomacy and Global Governance from the Brussels School of Governance, with a German degree from Edinburgh University. Based in Brussels since 2024, Hollands is currently an EU Public Affairs professional, working on Borthwick simultaneously. All views are personal, independent from any employer or client.
